After one of the hottest, driest summers we can remember for a long time, we are now fast approaching autumn and our flu vaccinations are in stock.
Flu vaccinations are changing this year. There will be two different types of vaccine provided to patients, one for the over 65 age group (on or before 31st March 2019) and a different one for those eligible patients under age 65, which is based on the latest scientific evidence of the different vaccines being more effective for the different co-horts.
We’ve had to order the different vaccines based on the numbers of patients in each age group vaccinated last year, so hopefully this will match this year’s needs. It’s also as important as ever that our patients get their vaccinations from the surgery rather than elsewhere to ensure we use our full order and help prevent any financial loss to the surgery.
Eligible patients include those who are 65 and over, Carers, Health Care Workers, Pregnant women, patients suffering with an underlying long term health condition such as Diabetes or Asthma and adults with a weakened immune system, for example due to current medication.
By having your flu jab, you are not only helping yourself, you are helping to protect the overall population from this nasty virus spreading to vulnerable people. Call 01803 855897 to book it, pressing option 1 then option 1. Alternatively book in online via patient access.
This year, as well as our main Saturday clinics, we have been working with Kingswear parish council to arrange a flu vaccination clinic in the Kingswear village hall. The dates for these are:
- Saturday 22nd September at Brixham Hospital, 8am-12.00
- Saturday 13th October at Galmpton, 8am-12.00
- Wednesday 24th October Kingswear Village Hall, 10am -12.00
We also have a number of mini clinics throughout the week days and those attending the practice for other appointments over September and October will also be offered a vaccination at that time.
